Notes
California def. Clemson, 61-60, to win the NIT title.
Duke became the first-ever school to have four players
chosen in the first round of the NBA draft: Elton Brand, Trajan Langdon,
William Avery, and Corey Maggette.
Minnesota started the NCAA tournament without four
players, including two starters, all of whom were linked to alleged
academic cheating.
Duke's men's and women's teams finished as runnerups in
the NCAA, the women losing the title game to Purdue, 62-45.
Alvin Young's 25.1 ppg was the lowest by a national
scoring champ since 1949, when Yale's Tony Lavelli won the crown with a
22.4 average.
